Underpainting for a work in progress, sacred geometry design in watercolor

I’m virtually finished with the underpainting of this large, and as yet untitled, painting.  Next I will coat the whole thing with acrylic ground for pastels, which is a transparent paste laden with marble dust.  It gives the paper a fine sandpaper feel, and will enable my pastel marks to cling to the substrate.

Then–maybe as soon as Friday, depending on the weather–I will lug the unfinished piece up to Setrock Falls and lay the scene overtop with my trusty, luminous pastels.

And here is a detail of the mandala in the middle:This is the central mandala in the underpainting of a piece I'm working on.
