I found these Magnolia fraseri seed cones on my evening walk. They are astonishingly pink! When they are ripe they are a dark brown with brilliant red seeds the size of beans. These must have been blown down in a thunderstorm, so I put them in my pocket and added them to my sketchbook.
I have so much appreciation for the beautiful place in which I live. This Forest Service road is in my neighborhood and runs parallel to the laughing, cascading Rock Creek.
And here is the Sun setting in the cathedral of the forest.
