I’m marking today as the first day of homeschool, even though we homeschooled last week. McKinley is reading from the book “Animal Friends”, a story a day. Already I can tell his reading is flowing better. He just said he liked reading it, so that is definitely an improvement” Last week he also read “The Garden of Abdul Gasazi.” I think a reading journal would be most a very good thing to start. I can also tell that we are going to need to have a schedule to adhere to, so that he becomes more aware of what’s required of him. In Math, we jumped to lesson 29 in Saxon 2, but today I had him do lesson 25. I’ve ordered the meeting book, though I’m not sure how integral that was to the whole thing. I’m getting a better feel for how things will flow, time-wise, and also how to encourage his cooperation. Right now he is sharpening knives. (!) The science in Oak Meadow doesn’t seem to really engage Nature, at least last week’s lesson, so I think we will maybe have a science journal, too? Right now he has a journal, and that’s the first thing he does every morning–draw a picture and write sentences. We touch on spelling and writing with that.
today: math, writing, reading, drawing, science in the garden
