a micron pen drawing of a tree and a catIronwood, micron pen drawing

This past summer I did a daily sketch for awhile, and while it was quite fun, I always felt rushed. So now I will be having a go at a weekly drawing. This way I can really delve into the detail and development of a piece.

The distinctive muscled appearance of the ironwood trunk was what I was attempting to capture, though perhaps I didn’t do so fine a job! The ironwood is also known as American hornbeam, yet another clue to its density. It is a small tree with smooth gray bark that seems to prefer the moist banks of the river, which is where this particular ironwood grows.  The cat’s name is Spark.  She is a freedom fighter.
